The Wellington Academy’s headteacher, Steven Paddock, is delighted to report the school’s best ever set of GCSE/BTEC grades from an extremely hard-working Year 11 cohort and teaching staff.

Mr Paddock said:

“We are extremely proud of the students’ hard work and teachers’ dedication over the last two years.   The impact of the pandemic has been diminished through a level of application and effort to great learning and teaching that the Academy’s community can be proud of.

Benedict Simpson-Alexander of The Wellington Academy

“The first formal exams in two years were supported through a real commitment to catching up from the pandemic, with pupils staying for an extra lesson twice per week for the whole year, which has really paid dividends for their grades.  The support from our parents, pupils, and teachers to enable this has made the difference for these results and really place these in a brilliant place to develop further from here.

“The Wellington Academy’s motto is “effort x failure = results” and this cohort of young people have exemplified this throughout the year to gain a set of results that they can be rightly proud of.   To trust things will be alright when you have no reference point has been a real challenge for all.  Yet the motto has held true as always for these wonderful young people who now can become whatever they desire.”

Although the academy is proud of all of its students’ outcomes, particularly in the challenging climate of the last two years, some notable results include:

  • Salahuddin Ahmed achieved 11 qualifications at grade 5 and above including grade 8s in History and Maths.
  • Sydney and Summer Jones achieved a great set of results with grade 7s in Science and English.
  • Gwen Veys-Pauby and Benedict Simpson-Alexander both achieved grade 9s in French and grade 8s in English and Maths.
  • Dejul Pun gained grade 9s in Maths and Biology
  • Paige Bernsten achieved a grade 9 in RE and grade 8s in Science and Maths.

Sabrina Hawkins, assistant headteacher for raising standards, said:

“We are so proud of all of our students today - they have worked hard all year and have shown a huge amount of dedication and resilience.  Throughout this year we have challenged them to keep working and they have risen to that challenge every time.”

Steven Paddock added:

“The regional schools commissioner authorised the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust to take on this academy in 2020 after a poor set of results in 2019, and to make it the heart of the community and give the people of Tidworth/ Ludgershall an academy to be proud of.  I personally feel that the Year 11 pupils and our staff have delivered on that request in spades.

“I have seen first-hand both parties’ efforts and tenacity in spite of a highly unusual landscape and I am proud of each and every student and staff member and thank them and wish them the best going into next academic year.”
